I get bored easily, and tend to be concurrently working on the writeup for several different trips at any one time. It may all seem rather confusing (while I’m trying to catch up with the backlog) but I’m hoping the backlog is cleared soon, first with our trip to Tokushima in Japan then Iceland’s. So, fingers crossed.

It is at the suggestion of the mister that we have a sticky note to update on the latest posts. It’s a proposal that isn’t without merits hence the birth of this post.

These are the 10 latest posts on actual travels out of the country, in descending order of written currency:

  1. Hi!
Chanced upon your blog when trying (by now quite desperately) to get a bus/tour to see light-up at Shirakawago on 19 Jan. Now you can see how last-minute we are!! No luck so far — everything seems to be fully-booked. We will be in Takayama and hoping to see the much-talked about Shirakawago light-up.

Can see from your interesting & detailed blogs that you are a good planner. Would you be able to share any interesting tips, places to see and eat at for Takayama, Shirakawa-go and Okuhida onsen area?

    Thanks loads!

    • Hi YML

Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment. It is indeed a little late to make arrangements to see the light-up at Shirakawago, but the last I checked, J-Bus (http://www.j-bus.co.jp/web/index.html) still has buses going from Takayama to Kanazawa (stopping at Shirakawago) for the day you wish to visit. However it seems that the website doesn’t reflect the special night buses leaving Shirakawago after the light-up so there might be a problem leaving after that. Have you tried emailing the Shirakawago Tourist Association for their help?

Unfortunately, I am now still stuck at planning our activities in Takayama and beyond so I can’t help very much. But of course, you cannot miss Hida Beef at Takayama (if you eat beef). There’s also the folk village, which is like a mock-up of the gassho huts found in Shirakawago region. Have read that one could give it a miss if you are going to see the real thing. Other than that, Takayama has a rather interesting trekking route. Check out http://www.hida.jp/english/ for more suggestions.

Shirakawago is small so we are planning to just walk around and take pictures. As for Okuhida onsen area, afraid I don’t know much about because we are not going there.

      Have fun on your trip!
